My standard rate for pay-as-you-go lessons is £22 per hour though discounts are available where pupils pre-pay for lessons or select inclusive / intensive courses.

I work flexible hours and offer free pick-up and drop-off, and can often arrange lessons to start or finish at your place of work or study if it helps.

Normal tuition is on a one-to-one basis, and my aim is to ensure that you get your full hour(s) actually behind the wheel, rather than talking or being driven around by me!

Lessons are well planned and structured to suit the individual's specific needs, and record cards are maintained to ensure that the full driving syllabus is covered and that everybody progresses at a speed appropriate for them.

Please see the Lessons page for full details and options.

Don't forget, the first introductory hour is free to new pupils!

Here's what a few of my former pupils had to say ....

"Thanks for helping me pass my test and conquer roundabouts.  I will certainly advise others to drive with you, and I wish you all the best and am sure I will see you around.  Thank you so much!! (L.A. - First time pass)

"Thank you sooo much for making me an amazing driver"  (E.M. - First time pass)

"A huge thank you for teaching me how to drive.  I really enjoyed it and the teaching quality of your lessons was incredible.  Thanks again and all the best" (S.A. - First time pass)

"Can't thank you enough for everything you've done.  Wouldn't have done it without you"  (L.G. - First time pass)

"Thanks for everything, and especially for putting up with the mood swings" (J.W.)

"Just wanted to say thank you so much for teaching me to drive.  It's changed my life so much.  I love it!  Thanks again"  (A.C.)

"Thank you for being the best driving instructor ever!  Lots of love!" (S.M.)

"I just wanted to get in touch and say a massive thank you for all your help and patience and advice over the last few months.  I am really grateful for everything.  I really enjoyed learning with you and will certainly recommend you if the chance arises" (A.N.)

"Can't thank you enough for getting me through my test.  Driving lessons were always the highlight of my day!  Couldn't have done it without you.  See you on the roads" (S.C.)

Other costs

The cost of the theory test (inc. hazard perception) is currently £31.  This is payable to the Driving Standards Agency (though is included where pupils book a Platinum, Gold or Silver course with me - see the 'Lessons' page on this site).  Note that this figure is reviewed periodically by the DSA.  There are theory test centres in Plymouth and Truro locally.

The cost of a standard weekday practical driving test is currently £62.  This is payable to the Driving Standards Agency (though is included where pupils book a Platinum, Gold, Silver or Bronze course with me - see the 'Lessons' page on this site).  Note that this figure is reviewed periodically by the DSA and is higher for evening / weekend bookings and for those taking extended tests.  Local practical test centres are located in Plymouth, Bodmin, Launceston, Camborne and Penzance.

For more information visit the Driving Standards Agency corporate website at http://www.dsa.gov.uk

Changes to the practical driving test from 4th October 2010

From October 2010 the driving test is changing in two important ways.

Firstly, independent driving will beome part of the practical test for the first time.  Basically, for about ten minutes drivers will have to drive un-prompted by the examiner, instead following a series of directions, traffic signs, or a combination of both.  To help be clear about where they are supposed to go, the examiner can show them a diagram beforehand.

The Driving Standards Agency has published a short video on its YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com explaining more about independent driving, and learners are advised to view this prior to taking their practical test.

The second change to the test is that from the same date, there will be a requirement to perform just one reversing manoeuvre rather than the current two.  The options will be unchanged (i.e. reverse bay park, reverse parallel park, reverse around a corner to the left, and turn in the road), and candidates may still be asked to do an emergency stop.
